Dr. Shepherd, better known as “McDreamy,” was one of the medical drama’s most popular characters, and so viewers were absolutely speechless when he perished in a car accident at the end of the show’s 11th season.
The show wasn’t just trying to get a reaction, it turns out, as creator Shonda Rhimes is said to have decided to ax his character as a result of an affair Dempsey allegedly had on the set with a staff member. “It got very messy and emotional,” an insider said, adding the whole thing became a “huge liability.”
