Thomas played professional ice hockey goalie Eddie LeBec, the boyfriend – and then husband – of beloved waitress Carla Tortelli, who was portrayed by Rhea Perlman. While he was on Cheers, Thomas also had a morning show on a local Los Angeles radio station.
One day, a caller called in to ask what it was like working on the hit sitcom. Feeling playful, Thomas quipped, “It’s brutal. I have to kiss Rhea Perlman.” Guess who happened to be listening. Thomas was never seen on-screen again, and his character was killed off in a freak Zamboni accident.
