Butler played the titular Grace, a divorced single mom with a drinking problem who worked at an oil refinery plant in Missouri in the very non-traditional, yet highly successful ABC sitcom.
To be more accurate, the show was very successful for three seasons, but took a ratings nosedive in the fourth, possibly also due to Butler’s own real substance abuse problems. As the ratings worsened, the network lost its patience, and instead of getting rid of the character, they got rid of the entire show.
