Once they have got the attention of the person on the phone, the scammer then goes through a sob story they have created which can be anything from being in an accident to being in jail where they need to be bailed out. Using the grandparent’s sympathy, the scammers then request the money is sent over in some fashion that means the recipient cannot be tracked. Unfortunately, this usually means the money is never seen again, although the scammers can sometimes call back in the hope of getting more.
