Like it or not, the publicity Allison received from that photo did great things for pole vaulting. Before the infamous picture hit the internet, pole vaulters weren’t that well-known around the world.
Unless you were a fan of the sport, you probably couldn’t name anyone who did it. However, in the last decade, women involved in the discipline have become a lot more popular. Athletes like Sandi Morris and Eliza McCartney have gained recognition from the public, although a lot of the focus is still on the way they look.
