Abby Elliot played police lieutenant Jeanette Peterson aka the last girl Ted dates before meeting “The Mother.” Ted first notices her on the train, but she gets away before he has a chance to talk to her. The following afternoon, he sees her outside the college where he teaches and she reveals that she looked him up based on the few details she remembered about him. Although the group finds the situation strange, Ted is thrilled. That is, until he finds out that she has actually been following him for more than a year.
