Many of the people on the plane were so badly burned they were unable to identify them through sight alone. However, medical professionals were able to perform a postmortem on Aaliyah that was about to reveal the true cause of her passing. It turned out the singer had suffered a blow to the head before she went into complete shock. That combined with a weak heart meant even if she had survived the crash, it was unlikely she would have made it out of the incident alive. It was eventually the fire that took her life.
