Slowly breaking away from the younger image that working on Nickelodeon had given her, Ariana was slowly finding ways to demonstrate her maturity. However, unlike many of her contemporaries, the star wasn’t using her clothes to do that.
In the early days of her career, the singer was highly commended for dressing what they termed as “age appropriate.” Her high ponytail, which has become a staple of Ariana’s looks, was particularly praised, even being referred to as a cultural phenomenon. There was a big change on the horizon, though.
