With Bobby’s newfound solo success, New Edition’s lead singer Ralph Tresvant was thinking of going solo as well. In order to prepare for his possible departure as well as convince him to stay, New Edition voted in a new member to replace Bobby Brown and bring them back to a five-man band. Johnny Gill was the first non-Boston member to join New Edition and Ralph wasn’t too excited about it. That is, until he heard Johnny sing. And then the rest was history and Johnny and Ralph became very close friends.
