At that Roxbury talent show, a choreographer and manager named Payne spotted them and named the boy group New Edition, to symbolize that they were a new edition of the great and historic band the Jackson 5. Two of the group’s original members, Travis Pettus and Corey Rackley, left the group and were replaced by Ralph Tresvant who had a singing group of his own with Rick; and Ronnie DeVoe, who was Payne’s nephew. And thus the magic five were born.
