By 2002 New Edition was back together after pursuing solo careers that were not too successful. However this time, New Edition went on without Bobby Brown. They began to build themselves up again and played at casinos, clubs and small arenas until they finally got noticed. Sean Combs, producer and rapper, caught one of their shows and he immediately signed New Edition his record label called Bad Boy Records since New Edition finally were able to leave MCA Records because their long-term contract was concluded.
