For her second album, Underwood decided to try her hand at songwriting. Carnival Ride was released in October 2007 and featured four tracks co-written by the country star. With each consecutive album, Underwood played a larger and larger role in the creative process of making an album. She personally selected the writers and producers she wanted on her records and made final approvals for every career decision from the music videos to the cover art.
