At 14 years old, Carrie Underwood landed her first major audition in front of music executives from Capitol Records. A deal was drafted but quickly fell through and Underwood decided to return to school. She describes this time in her life a soul crushing. There was a period she decided to give up on her dream as a singer altogether. After high school she studied mass communication and journalism at Northeastern State University in Tahlequah, Oklahoma. She graduated magna cum laude in 2006.
