Although the puffer fish is a danger in the wild, it has proved most dangerous in the kitchen. Indeed, this poisonous fish is a delicacy in Japan and Korea – with thousands of people trying it each year. However, only specially trained and licensed chefs are allowed to prepare it, due to the poison within its skin and organs. Unfortunately, there are those who try and prepare it themselves, and suffer the muscle paralysis, vomiting, lack of breath and suffocation that eventually leads to death 4 to 24 hours later.
