If Rocco had indeed been mistreated by his previous owner, it would make him heartbreakingly similar to countless other pitbull and pitbull mixes throughout not just the U.S. but also the world.
PETA (People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals), the world’s largest animal rights group, dubbed them the “most abused dogs on Earth,” and seemingly with good reason. They are reared to be cheap bodyguards or burglar alarms, and abandoned when they get sick or injured. Many pitbulls’ fate, however, is even more dire than you might imagine.
