Considering they’re so vilified – with some states and other countries even passing laws specifically banning them – it’s rather ironic to consider how little the general public knows about this breed.
We could start with the fact that “pitbull” isn’t actually a breed at all! It’s actually a generic term used to describe four different dog breeds, most notably the American Pit Bull Terrier, which descended from bulldogs and terriers and was bred to fight in pits, hence its name – and a possible explanation to why they’re so maligned today.
