Erica didn’t know about Michael’s substance abuse problems, as he kept them hidden from her – and the rest of the world. When she found out, she was understandably devastated.

“I felt lied to, and began to hate him,” she said. “But when I saw what this (shelter) was becoming, I felt proud and amazed.” Michael learned to train dogs, and has been operating the facility since – with some help from volunteers, many of whom have also kicked similar such habits. “It worked for me,” he explained, “and I’m willing to open it up to anyone who needs help.”
