Because the selfless man wished to remain anonymous, we will probably never know his true intentions behind his actions. It was clearly just an act of kindness, but whether he had a connection to the military or not, we will have to leave up in the air.
Regardless, his generosity definitely affected the woman for the better and she hopefully had a restful and peaceful journey home to see her family. What a happy ending.
