After some small film roles, a best-selling poster of Welch made her an instant pin-up girl, and from there, her popularity grew significantly. She starred in popular films such as The Beloved in 1970 and Hannie Caulder in 1971.
She also played a role in Kansas City Bomber, during which she broke her wrist doing her own stunts, which halted the filming for six weeks. The film wasn’t a critical success, but no doubt boosted Welch’s reputation for her own acting.
