After busking and struggling to make a breakthrough for many years, Mitchell found her success in the 70s. Joni Mitchell began as a folk singer but progressed into many elements of pop and rock. In 1970, Mitchell won her first Grammy Award for Best Folk Performance.
Almost all of her songs charted in the following years, with her album, Blue, reaching the British Top 3. Within just ten years, Mitchell was enormously popular, releasing regular albums and headlining world tours.

When Joni Mitchell began her career, she expressed a strong dislike for the industry controlling her life, and decades later, nothing had changed.
She wrote her own songs for that very reason, but after the release of her final album, Travelogue, in 2002, Mitchell spoke to Rolling Stone about how she has never liked the dominance of the industry. In 2007, she released another album, entitled Shine, which debuted at number 14 on the Billboard 200. Mitchell has not done a lot since, but is still a legend in the music industry.
