One of Gretchen Corbett’s first ever television appearances was in ABC’s N.Y.P.D. She was only cast for one episode in 1968, but it certainly kick-started her career. In 1973, Corbett moved to Los Angeles and was signed by Universal Studios.
While working under contract with the company, she had many recurring roles, in programs such as Marcus Welby, M.D., Hawaii Five-0, Murder, She Wrote, One Day at a Time, Magnum, P.I., Wonder Woman, Barnaby Jones, and McMillan & Wife.

Following on from her TV success, Corbett worked on multiple stage productions, including Shaw’s Arms and the Man, The Government Inspector, and Henry VI. In 2014, Gretchen Corbett directed the stage play, Bo-Nita, at Portland Center Stage.
However, she now seems to have taken more of a backseat in the industry, where she is rarely seen playing roles herself anymore. She played the title role in Evelyn in 2012, and Paisley in Motor Away in 2011. She was also the artistic director of The Haven Project in the 2000s, which aimed to help underprivileged children through theater.
