Today, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, Prince William and Kate Middleton, have a marriage straight out of a fairytale. The famous pair, who first fell in love as college sweethearts at the University of St. Andrews, tied the knot in an epic Royal wedding on April 29, 2011. Since then, the now parents-of-three have pretty much been giving relationship and parenting goals to all of us.
However, as flawless and picture-perfect as they may seem to us now – the couple has had to overcome several bumps in the road – just like most normal couples. In fact, after they started dating in 2003 – Kate and William had a string of difficult challenges and disagreements that eventually caused them to take a break in April, 2007.
These are the events that likely led to Kate and William’s – thankfully short-lived – 2007 split.

Back when Kate Middleton was still just a “commoner,” she met the handsome Prince William in 2001 – while studying with him at the University of St. Andrews. It had been reported that the stunning future Duchess of Cambridge had caught the Prince’s eye while walking in a charity fashion show at the university in 2002.
However, their friendship wouldn’t blossom into romance until the year after, when they started to officially date. Unfortunately, dating a Royal is not all it is cracked up to be. For starters, having to share your new relationship in front of the media’s eyes is anything but easy – and is part of the reason why Kate and William had their fair share of problems along the way.
