The show did not become a success overnight. In fact it was cancelled in its first season on CBS. It began airing in 1985 and had trouble competing with ABC’s shows on Wednesday nights. It was moved to a Saturday time slot where it continued to have low ratings. It then went to syndication and Universal decided to pick it up and produce a new season. The second season aired in 1987 and it would go on to run for four more seasons before it finished in 1990 for good.
