Both Cher and Chaz (while he was still Chastity) released memoirs in 1998. In Cher’s book, The First Time, she told that she first learned of her daughter’s coming out from Chastity herself.
But in Chastity’s memoir, Family Outing, it’s said that Cher was actually told by Chastity’s father, Sonny Bono. Chastity wrote that her mother said she’d been embarrassed to be the last to know, but was furious about the fact she heard about it from Sonny, whom she “hated” at the time.
