When “Charles in Charge” was originally written, the role of Charles himself was actually written for actor Michael J. Fox. At the time Fox was famous for starring in the film “Back to the Future.” As the film was wildly successful and now considered a cult classic, he would have brought his star power to the show. It was hoped that his star power would draw in a big audience and make the new sitcom an instant classic. However, Fox declined the role and it was given to Baio instead.
