Thanks to the portrayal of Jersey Shore in popular culture, we have always assumed that those who live in the area always say that they are going “down the shore” when they are on their way to the beach.
Unfortunately, the real people of New Jersey don’t say this. Instead, they say that they are going “to the beach.” As soon as those people who do live in the area hear someone say that they are going “down the shore” they automatically know that they are tourists.
