Patina Miller has a much more colorful life than her character Commander Paylor: she’s a Broadway actress, singer and dancer praised for her starring roles in the musicals Sister Act and Pippin – for which she received a Tony Award for Best Actress in a Musical.
On TV, she left her mark in All My Children, and in the political drama Madam Secretary. One curiosity: Miller was one of three finalists for the role of Effie White in the movie Dreamgirls, which ultimately went to Jennifer Hudson.
