Kind and sweet Primrose ‘Prim’ Everdeen is Katniss’s younger sister. In many ways, they are opposites – Prim has a gentle personality, while Katniss’ is prickly – but they love each other deeply.
This love and the commitment that Katniss has towards her sister are the reason why the events around Prim are important catalysts in the story. First, when Prim’s an innocent girl chosen by lottery to be a tribute in the Hunger Games, and later, when she’s a more developed character who dreams of becoming a doctor, but meets a tragic end right in front of Katniss’ eyes.
