A barcode is that small rectangle on the bottom or back of any item you purchase. But as it turns out, there is a method to the seeming madness that you see on a barcode.
The width of each one of the bars corresponds to a number, and because there are so many combinations of widths of lines as well as well as numbers which correspond to them, it is easy to randomize the numbers. When the laser at checkout reads the code, it knows EXACTLY what is being scanned.
