There was quite a bit of actor swapping, role recasting, and actors leaving the show. However, when Dick Sargent took over the role of Darrin Stephens, the producers were actually going back to their first pick for the role of Samantha’s husband.
In fact, they had originally wanted him first and foremost to play Darrin, over York. Well, in a roundabout way, they got what they had wanted all along. Even still, when most of us think of Darrin, we still picture York rather than Sargent.
