That’s right! The actual actress who played Samantha, Elizabeth Montgomery, was not who the show’s developers first wanted for the role. Instead, the main character was to be named Cassandra, and they wanted actress Tammy Grimes to play her.
Unfortunately, Grimes couldn’t take the role, as she was contracted to another studio. So, instead we got the lovely Montgomery as Samantha! Though not what they originally planned, no one can deny that she aced the role, and is the face we all think of when we talk about Bewitched.
