When Kermit was first revealed in 1955, nobody was really sure what he was. People thought he was a frog, lizard, newt, salamander – people just weren’t sure. It wasn’t until Kermit appeared on the Johnny Carson show nearly ten years later that Kermit was finally revealed to be a frog. It was around this point that Kermit finally got his collar, as it made him more easily identifiable as a frog, and it helped hide a seam between his head and the rest of his body.
