There is a massive Frog Festival in Jim Henson’s childhood hometown of Leland, Mississippi. Known for its swampy locale, Henson is said to have drawn his inspiration for Kermit from childhood memories of playing in the muck outside of his home. The festival celebrates Henson and his local heritage, as well as the heritage of the area’s favored hometown boy, Kermit the Frog. Held in October, the Frogfest has carnival rides, barbecue, and even live music!
