It was later adapted into a hit, Academy Award-nominated film starring Ben Affleck and Rosamund Pike as husband and wife, Nick and Amy Dunne. When Amy goes missing, all evidence puts Nick in the crosshairs of an intense investigation. It’s the twist ending that gave Denise the unfortunate nickname: at the closing of the movie, it turns out that Amy staged her own kidnapping to get back at and frame Nick for having an affair, as well as for other abuses she endured in their marriage.
