The Muppets weren’t always intended to be for children. Before Sesame Street, Jim Henson intended for his muppets to be for adult audiences. In fact, he created muppets for a recurring Saturday Night Live sketch called “Land of Gorch.” However, the writers of SNL clashed too much with Henson and the rest of the muppet creators over the storyline of Gorch, and they eventually left to create their own show – The Muppet Show.
