The late Maya Angelou is one of the most influential poets of all-time. Her friends included Martin Luther King Jr. and Oprah Winfrey, but she’s also made a name for herself. In addition to her celebrated poetry career, she’s been a fry cook, dancer, performer, singer, journalist, activist, actor, writer, director, and producer – as well as a teen mom. Maya had a son when she was merely 16, through a short-lived relationship with her high school sweetheart. Her son followed in his mother’s footsteps and also became a poet.
