Algeria’s story begins with war, and this may be a reason why the country has been able to remain so strong for so long. It fought in wars against Morocco and Israel as well as fighting a decades long civil war.
Today, despite not being affected by the Arab Spring (like its neighbors Tunisia and Libya), the Algerian military still has to deal with threats from al-Qaeda on its oil wells.
