Ina Garten spent her youth and teen years in Stamford, Connecticut. Since she was a child, she had dreams of being a cook, and was often in the kitchen helping her mother.
Her mother, however, discouraged young Ina from spending so much time in the kitchen as opposed to focusing on her schoolwork. Ina met her future husband, Jeffrey Garten, who is now a professor at Yale University, while she was in high school at the age of 15.
