The future cooking and crafts genius grew up in Nutley, New Jersey with her five other siblings. She learned how to cook and sew from her mother and learned how to garden from her father.
When Martha was a young teenager, she began a career in modeling (like in this photo seen here). After graduating from Nutley High School, she continued modeling for clients as big as Chanel throughout college in order to pay for her tuition at Barnard College where she studied art history and architectural history.
