In the history of rock, there aren’t many figures larger than Queen frontman Freddie Mercury. Born Farrokh Bulsara in Zanzibar, a world away from the glitz and glam of Hollywood, Mercury reinvented himself until Farrokh was gone, and all that remained was Freddie. Taking on the role of the charismatic singer for Bohemian Rhapsody, then, was a monumental task. Luckily, Rami Malek was more than up for it. To recreate Mercury, he trained with celebrity trainer Jay Cardiello to nail not only his muscular physique but also Mercury’s charismatic physicality. It sure worked, because he won an Oscar.
