Getting attacked by a monkey on-set was actually the least of Salma Hayek’s concerns when she tried getting her passion project, Frida, off the ground for more than a decade. For example, she had to beat Madonna and Jennifer Lopez, who were set to portray Mexican painter Frida Kahlo at different times. In the end, it was all worth it – the film received rave reviews, as did Hayek’s performance. It truly was fearless – with a limp and a unibrow, she looked nothing like herself. Perhaps that was the secret, as she was nominated for an Oscar.
