One such figure is Donatella Versace, the sister of legendary designer Gianni Versace who took over the company in the wake of her brother’s untimely demise. In The Assassination of Gianni Versace, Donatella was played by Spanish actress Penelope Cruz. While the Versace family wasn’t pleased with the overall production of the TV show, calling it a “work of fiction,” Cruz revealed that she personally got Donatella’s blessing to portray her.
