We couldn’t ever imagine Sookie St. James being played by anyone other than the hilariously funny Melissa McCarthy, but it turns out that the pilot featured someone very different… Alex Borstein!
At the time, Borstein was known for playing several characters in MADtv, and the producers of that show didn’t want her to take on any more projects. Melissa McCarthy took on the role of Sookie instead, and totally crushed it! Interestingly, Borstein did get to play a couple of smaller roles in Gilmore Girls and the recent mini-series, Gilmore Girls: A Year in the Life, so it wasn’t all bad.
